Cool Stuff: Jo Jo in the Stars

Directed and written by Marc Craste, Jo Jo in the Stars is officially described as “…a 12 minute story of love, self-sacrifice, and jealousy played out against a black and white world that is both nightmarish and hauntingly beautiful.” Indeed. I’d say that the mark of great execution is when you can’t imagine a different method being used to accomplish the same goal; so it is with this cartoon. Who needs color? Not Marc Craste.

This award-winning short most notably earned the 2004 BAFTA Award for Best Animated Short Film and has been screened at more than eighty film festivals around the world. The film is a production of the UK-based Studio AKA; an overview of its other work and more can be found at its official site here.
