Andreas Deja on Designing Mama Odie for "The Princess and the Frog"

Jim Hill Media has posted highlights from a talk given by Andreas Deja at a recent Ryman Arts career event, where the Disney animator discussed the thought processes behind designing and animating Mama Odie (and her seeing-eye snake Juju) for The Princess and the Frog. Among other topics, Deja discusses the thinking behind Mama Odie’s wardrobe, the design decisions to make Juju distinct from The Jungle Book‘s Kaa, and the substitute he came up with to express emotional changes usually communicated through the eyes.

Deja will be appearing at the Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks, CA, tomorrow, April 17, 2010, to discuss his work and the release of his new sketchbook A Different Stripe. Visit the Van Eaton Galleries website for more information and to RSVP for tickets.
