"Princess and the Frog" Score Ruled Ineligible for Oscar

Variety reports that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has ruled that the score to The Princess and the Frog is ineligible for an Academy Award for violating the Academy rule prohibiting “scores… diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs.” The rule was created in the 1990′s after a series of Disney animated musicals won in the Best Score category, and the scores for Nine and Where the Wild Things Are were also declared ineligible earlier.
