Corus Kids Announces December 2009 Programming Highlights

Canada’s Corus Kids has announced its December 2009 programming highlights, with YTV highlighting Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and A Garfield Christmas Special, along with the premiere of the new animated movie The Legend of Frosty the Snowman and other holiday specials like the Rugrats Chanukah and Kwanzaa specials.

Meanwhile, Treehouse will also present several holiday and seasonal-themed episodes of their shows, including Angelina Ballerina‘s “Angelina’s Holiday Treats,” Olivia‘s “Olivia Klaus,” and The Backyardigans’ “The Action Elves Save Christmas Eve,:

YTV gives the gift of family fun with Christmas classics and premiere movies

Nickelodeon presents the special premiere of Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh

(November 3, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) This December, YTV is giving the gift of Christmas classics and premiere specials including Burl IvesRudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas and the broadcast premiere of Unaccompanied Minors. Nickelodeon delivers a stocking full of fun for kids with 12 Days of Drake & Josh followed by the 90-minute special Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh. Treehouse offers preschoolers a schedule chock full of holiday-themed premiere episodes.

YTV HOLIDAY MOVIE PREMIERES

THE LEGEND OF FROSTY THE SNOWMAN – PREMIERE
Narrated by Burt Reynolds and starring the voice of SpongeBob, Tom Kenny, this sequel to the classic tale revisits Frosty on an adventure in the town of Evergreen where magic is forbidden. Frosty eventually wins the hearts and imaginations of the town’s people – even Principal Pankley, the most doubtful of them all. The Legend of Frosty the Snowman premieres on Tuesday, December 8 at 7 p.m.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS – PREMIERE
A group of unaccompanied minors are snowed in at the Hoover International Airport and there isn’t a parent in sight. Forced to spend Christmas Eve at the airport, the kids decide it would be fun to team up and escape from the disgruntled airport workers who are assigned to watch over them. Starring Wilmer Valderrama (That 70′s Show) Unaccompanied Minors premieres Friday, December 18 at 7 p.m.

BLAST FROM CHRISTMAS PAST
It’s that time of year again to reflect on the past and watch classic Christmas specials. Viewers can get nostalgic with an assortment of themed movies and specials during YTV’s annual Blast From Christmas Past on Sunday, December 13 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Highlights include:

Tis the Season to be Smurfy at 6 p.m.
A Garfield Christmas Special at 6:30 p.m.
A Charlie Brown Christmas at 7 p.m.
A Flintstone Family Christmas at 7:30 p.m.

A GARFIELD CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (1987)
Garfield finds himself on an old-fashioned holiday at the family farm with Jon’s mom, dad, brother and grandmother. The Emmy®-nominated A Garfield Christmas Special airs Sunday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m.

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (1965)
Lucy counsels a depressed Charlie Brown through the holiday season by directing the Christmas play. Charlie Brown sets out to find the perfect Christmas tree to decorate the stage, though his scruffy choice draws sneers from the other kids. But after some timely words from Linus, he does discover the real meaning of the holiday season. A Charlie Brown Christmas airs Sunday, December 13 at 7 p.m.

MORE HOLIDAY PROGRAMMING FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER
When the young reindeer Rudolph is teased for his red nose, he perseveres by using his ultra-bright nose to save Christmas by helping Santa Claus see through a storm. Viewers can catch this classic tale, narrated by Burl Ives, onTuesday, December 22 at 6 p.m. and all day long on Friday, December 25 as it will air back-to-back from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT CHRISTMAS
The holiday season isn’t just about Christmas. Viewers can sit back, relax and celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa with festive programming specials that everyone can enjoy.

RUGRATS CHANUKAH
During a celebration at a local synagogue, Tommy and Chuckie try to help Grandpa Boris settle a feud with Shlomo, a nemesis from the Old Country. Rugrats Chanukah airs Friday, December 11 at 6 p.m.

AS TOLD BY GINGER HANNUKAH
When Ginger traces her family tree she discovers she’s one quarter Jewish and insists on celebrating Hanukkah as well as Christmas. An Even Stevens Holiday Special airs Friday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m.

RUGRATS KWANZAA
The Carmichaels are visited by Great Aunt T, who is set for a Kwanzaa celebration to honour Africa’s great people and its first harvest. Little Susie worries she’s not “great” enough to celebrate, so Aunt T and the Rugrats show her that everyone has greatness in them. Rugrats Kwanzaaairs Saturday, December 26 at 6 p.m.

EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS: EVERYBODY HATES KWANZAA
Chris gears up for Christmas and gets a school assignment to do a good deed over the break. Meanwhile, Chris’ dad celebrates Kwanzaa instead of Christmas to save money. Catch this Kwanza episodeon Saturday, December 26 at 6:30 p.m.

NEW HOLIDAY THEMED EPISODES OF YTV FAVOURITES
Throughout the month of December, YTV fans can enjoy premiere holiday-themed episodes of their favourite series including Everybody Hates Chris: Everybody Hates Snow Day to Kid vs. Kat: Christmas Special all month long. Topping off all of the holiday episode excitement is the premiere of iCarly: iChristmas.

iCARLY: iChristmas – PREMIERE EPISODE
When Spencer sets all of Carly’s (Miranda Cosgrove) presents on fire, she wishes for a normal brother. A Christmas angel answers her wish and shows Carly what it would be like to have a normal brother. Viewers can catch this premiere holiday episode on Thursday, December 10 at 7 p.m.

NICKELODEON DECEMBER 2009 HIGHLIGHTS

12 DAYS OF DRAKE & JOSH
Laugh out loud for 12 days straight as Nickelodeon dedicates 12 days to Drake Bell and Josh Peck beginning on Monday, December 14 until Friday, December 25.Viewers can catch the funniest episodes of Drake & Josh in the show’s regular time slot at 5 p.m. The event will come to a close with the 90-minute special Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh on Christmas day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, DRAKE & JOSH – PREMIERE
Troublemakers Drake and Josh get in trouble once again. This time, it’s on the roof of the mall during Christmas time! This premiere 90-minute special airs Friday, December 25 at 5 p.m.

Mimi and Willow head off to deliver the presents and promise to return to decorate the tree. But, how are they going to make it? A Christmas song will give them the answer! THE BACKYARDIGANS: THE ACTION ELVES SAVE CHRISTMAS EVE – PREMIERE
It’s Christmas Eve and Santa’s magical sack is missing. This sounds like a job for Santa’s action elves! Tasha, Uniqua and Pablo are the craftiest and stealthiest elves around. With commando equipment fashioned out of toys, the action elves do what it takes to get Santa’s sack back.
