YTV and Treehouse Announce Highlights for May 2009

Corus Kids has announced programming highlights for May 2009 on YTV and Treehouse. YTV will be hosting “SpongeOdd Day” on May 18, 2009, with back-to-back episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants and The Fairly OddParents, leading up to the premiere of The Fairly OddParents episode “BIRTHDAY BASHED/MOMNIPRESENT.”

Meanwhile, Treehouse will be airing a selection of Mother’s Day-themed cartoons on Sunday, May 10, 2009, including the premiere of the Olivia episode “Olivia and the Babies.”

CORUS KIDS MAY 2009 HIGHLIGHTS
YTV premieres Nickelodeon’s original musical movie Spectacular!
starring Canadian Nolan Gerard Funk

(April 1, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) Must-see shows and specials are coming to Corus Kids this May as YTV premieres Nickelodeon’s original musical movie Spectacular! starring homegrown hunk Nolan Gerard Funk (Smallville); the winner of Karaoke Star Jr.will be announced in a special one-hour finale; and young viewers – and their moms – are in for a treat as Treehouse presents a premiere Mother’s Day-themed episode of Olivia.

YTV MAY 2009 HIGHLIGHTS

SPECTACULAR! – SPECIAL MOVIE PRESENTATION
Spectacular! tracks charismatic rock star-in-training Nikko, played by Canadian Nolan Gerard Funk (Smallville), on his offbeat road to fame after he is dumped by his band and his girlfriend. Desperate for a career jump-start but strapped for cash, the ousted teen joins Spectacular!, a floundering show choir led by preppy Courtney (Tammin Sursok, The Young and the Restless) who slips him into the lead spot vacated by her ex Royce (Simon Curtis, Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dream Coat). Musical worlds collide as duelling teams of talented singing and dancing teens head for a national championship and a bagful of prize money. Fuelling the competition further, Royce’s new girlfriend Tammi (Victoria Justice, Zoey 101) leads their powerful rivals, Ta-Da. Spectacular! premieres on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in Big Fun Fridays and will repeat in ZAPX hosted by Simon on Sunday, May 31 at 6 p.m.

SPONGEODD SQUAREPARENTS DAY
To celebrate the May long weekend, YTV is giving its viewers a day of back-to-back SpongeBob SquarePants and The Fairly OddParents episodes on Monday, May 18 beginning at 9 a.m. To top it all off, a premiere episode of The Fairly OddParents: Birthday Bashed/Momnipresent will air at 5 p.m.

THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS: BIRTHDAY BASHED/MOMNIPRESENT – PREMIERE EPISODE
Timmy is excited for his birthday until he is reminded that the older he gets, the more likely he is to lose his fairies. In Momnipresent, Timmy’s mom has boring mom-type errands to run and wants Timmy to come along. Timmy wants to flee to the coolest Hollywood event in town but fairy magic doesn’t work on mom this time. Viewers can catch this premiere episode on Monday, May 18 at 5 p.m. in The Zone hosted by Carlos.

THE DOVE SLEEPOVER FOR SELF-ESTEEM
On Saturday, May 2, thousands of moms and girls across the country will be participating in the Dove Sleepover for Self-Esteem. This sleepover party encourages moms, mentors and daughters to get cosy and tune in to engage in conversation and celebrate self-esteem. As part of the event, YTV is airing the movie Ella Enchantedstarring Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) at 8 p.m., and has replaced all the commercials during the film with hosted segments. Throughout the evening, self-esteem expert Jessica Weiner,alongwith Sabrina Jalees from YTV’sIn Real Life, will encourage discussions with viewers at home about the issues that characters are facing in the movie and encouraging Sleepover viewers to share their experiences and opinions. A bowl of popcorn, pajamas and a few BFFs are all that is required.

KARAOKE STAR JR. – FINALE EPISODE
Canada has voted and the winner has been chosen! Join hosts Paul McGuire and Phil Guerrero as they announce who will become the first Karaoke Star Jr. and win the $5,000 prize. All is revealed in this half-hour finale episode, recorded live from Calgary Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. on YTV and CMT.

MOVIE PREMIERE
YTV premieres Material Girls this May, starring real-life sisters Haylie and Hilary Duff.

MATERIAL GIRLS – PREMIERE
Ava (Haylie Duff) and Tanzie Marchetta (Hilary Duff) are the spoiled heirs to their father’s cosmetics fortune. However, when a scandal breaks involving one of the company’s products, everything changes: their trust funds are frozen; their staff flees; and the paparazzi are hounding them. Ava and Tanzie are suddenly forced to make their way in a world that’s very different from the one they’ve known. Material Girls premieres on Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m.

TREEHOUSE MAY 2009 HIGHLIGHTS

CELEBRATING MOTHER’S DAY
Viewers can hang out with their moms this Mother’s Dayon Treehouse for non-stop Mother’s Day-themed episodes of viewers’ favourites including Dora the Explorer, Little Bear, Miffy, Boblins and Go Diego Go on Sunday, May 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. with Franklin: Mother’s Day. To top it all off, viewers won’t want to miss a premiere Mother’s Day episode of Olivia at 2:45 p.m.

OLIVIA: OLIVIA AND THE BABIES – PREMIERE EPISODE
Olivia notices all of the nice compliments her mother receives about baby brother William and decides to practice being a perfect mother. Olivia recruits the family cat, Edwin, and dog, Perry, to be her babies. When Olivia is asked to watch William, all of her mommy practising is tested. Viewers can catch Olivia and the Babies on Sunday, May 10 at 2:45 p.m.
