SpongeBob "Square Butts" Burger King Ad Sparks Controversy

A Burger King ad that mixes SpongeBob SquarePants and Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” song is generating controversy for pushing obesity and inappropriate sexuality to children. The ad changes the original song’s lyrics to say, “I like square butts and I cannot lie,” and features several dancers gyrating suggestively with big square boxes stuffed down the back of their pants. The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood have been campaigning to have the ad pulled, with representative Susan Linn stating, “”It’s bad enough when companies use a beloved media character like SpongeBob to promote junk food to children, but it’s utterly reprehensible when that character simultaneously promotes objectified, sexualized images of women.”
