Corus Kids Announces April 2009 Programming Highlights

Canada’s Corus Kids has released scheduling details for YTV and Treehouse for April 2009. Highlights on Treehouse include the debut of SpongeBob vs. The Big One, guest-starring Johnny Depp; the 22nd Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards; and an airing of It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. Meanwhile, Treehouse will also be celebrating Easter with themed episodes of Bob the Builder, Max & Ruby, and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!

(March 2, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) This April, Corus Kids is celebrating spring with fun-filled programming like the Canadian premiere of SpongeBob vs. The Big One, starring heartthrob Johnny Depp, and the Canadian premiere of the 22nd Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards with host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Scorpion King). To top it all off, YTV is toughing it out in the wilderness with the all-new Canadian original series Survive This, starring real-life Survivorman Les Stroud.

YTV APRIL 2009 HIGHLIGHTS

SURVIVE THIS – NEW CANADIAN ORIGINAL SERIES
Can kids survive the great outdoors without television, the Internet or a cell phone? Viewers are about to find out inthenew YTV original series Survive This, starring the real Survivorman, Les Stroud. Eight kids between the ages of 14 to 16 head into the wilderness to find out who can hack it. Every week, each teen is tested physically, emotionally and intellectually through various survival challenges such as finding food to eat and building shelter. Spearheaded by Les himself, the individual who is willing to learn and grow under the most difficult situations will earn the surviving bragging rights as the rest choose to drop out, one by one. Produced by 9 Story Entertainment in association with YTV, Survive This premieres Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m.

22ND ANNUAL NICKELODEON KIDS’ CHOICE AWARDS – CANADIAN BROADCAST
The annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards are back and ready to slime the stars. Broadcast in Canada exclusively on YTV for the third year in a row, this star-studded event recognizes the year’s top talent in TV, film and music. Rocking at the helm, host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will kick off the Canadian premiere this year’s awards on Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m.

The show features top celebrities among the performers and nominees including: Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, Jack Black, Jim Carrey, Miranda Cosgrove, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Vanessa Hudgens, The Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys, George Lopez, Michael Phelps, Rihanna, Adam Sandler, Will Smith, SpongeBob SquarePants, Ben Stiller, Reese Witherspoon, Nat Wolff, Tiger Woods, Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman and many more.

As a lead-in to the awards broadcast, viewers can get primed for the podium when YTV airs award-themed episodes of viewers’ Nickelodeon favourites including: SpongeBob SquarePants, The Mighty B, The Fairly OddParents, iCarly and Drake & Josh, beginning at 4 p.m.

SPONGEBOB VS. THE BIG ONE – SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Special guest star Johnny Depp is Jack Kahuna Laguna in SpongeBob vs. The Big One. In this special YTV presentation, SpongeBob and his friends are swept away and left stranded on a tropical island when a big wave hits Bikini Bottom. While attempting to get home, SpongeBob and his friends meet surfing legend Jack Kahuna Laguna, who explains that the only way to get back home is to ride the Big One. Kids and parents won’t want to channel surf when SpongeBob and Johnny Depp hit the airwaves Monday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. in The Zone, hosted by Carlos.

EASTER WEEKEND
YTV is celebrating Easter with the Charlie Brown classic It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. Also, viewers should hop over to YTV for the cocoa-coated favourite Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to celebrate this sweet time of year.

IT’S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN
The Peanuts gang gets ready for Easter in this Emmy®-nominated special. Linus is convinced that the Easter Beagle will appear, while Snoopy replaces Woodstock’s leaky nest with a swank bachelor pad and Peppermint Patty tries to show Marci how to make Easter eggs. WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
YTV airs the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – a music-filled, Day-Glo version of Roald Dahl‘s book, starring Gene Wilder. Find the golden ticket on Sunday, April 12 at 6 p.m.

PRANK GOODNESS
Known for its fondness for whoopee cushions and booby traps, YTVis joining in on all the April Fool’s fun on Wednesday, April 1 with back-to-back joke-themed episodes of viewers’ favourite series all afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m. with Captain Flamingo: When Fools Rush In. Also, to kick off a marathon of back-to-back Prank Patrol episodes beginning at 7 p.m., YTV is treating viewers to the premiere episode, Prank Patrol: Superstar guest starring YTV’s Carlos, host of The Zone.

YTV MOVIE MANIA – FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY!
Attention all family members! Tune in to watch blockbuster hits and animated favourites on YTV’s themed movie blocks, Big Fun Fridays at 7 p.m. and ZAPX, hosted by Simon, every Sunday at 6 p.m. The movie fun doesn’t stop there as YTV has added another blockbuster block to the list – Moovi bot, every Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.

To top it all off, kids can enjoy two Easter-themed, 15-minute premiere episodes of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! airing back-to-back on Saturday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.
