2008 Academy Awards: "WALL-E" Wins Best Animated Feature, "Bashir" Loses Out

The 81st annual Academy Awards are underway, and all awards have been announced for categories with an animated film in contention. The animated winners are:

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM: WALL-E (Walt Disney) Dir. by Andrew Stanton (21:06 EST)

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM: “La Maison en Petits Cubes” A Robot Communications Production, Kunio Kato (21:09 EST)

In the remaining categories, WALL-E lost out to several other films in the five other categories in which it was nominated, and the animated documentary Waltz with Bashir lost the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar to Departures.

BEST SOUND EDITING: The Dark Knight (Warner Bros.), Richard King (22:29 EST)

BEST SOUND MIXING: Slumdog Millionaire (Fox Searchlight), Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty (22:32 EST)

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: Slumdog Millionaire (Fox Searchlight), A.R. Rahman (22:54 EST)

BEST ORIGINAL SONG: “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire (Fox Searchlight), Music by A.R. Rahman, Lyric by Gulzar (23:01 EST)

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM: Departures (Regent Releasing), A Departures Film Partners Production, Japan (23:08 EST)
