Seattle Times on "Waltz with Bashir"

The Seattle Times has profiled the Israeli animated documentary film Waltz with Bashir, interviewing its director Ari Folman over the phone. Based on Folman’s own experiences as a soldier in the Israeli Army during the 1982 Lebanon war, Folman discusses why he turned interviews with fellow veterans into animated footage, how breaking through his own psychological barriers led him to make the movie, and the meaning of the film’s title. The article also points out that a timing technicality meant the movie could not be considered for a Best Documentary Academy Award, and pointed out that it was shut out of the running for Best Animated Feature.
