Quantcast

Briefly: The "Real" Anton Ego; SpongeBob Bling

* The New York Times profiles French food critic François Simon (free registration required), whom many French reporters claimed was the model for Ratatouille‘s food critic Anton Ego. The article states, “Brad Bird, the film’s director, said through a spokesman that the character was a pastiche derived from many sources,” but adds that Simon himself “was quick to assume Anton Ego’s persona,” partially to please his nephews, and quotes Simon as saying, “This low-life Anton is a good guy. He sacrifices his reputation to celebrate the cuisine of a rat.”

* Simmons Jewelry and Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products will launch a line of SpongeBob SquarePants jewelry in conjunction with the cartoon poriferan’s 10th anniversary, with an exclusive 12-carat total weight diamond encrusted pendant to be auctioned off for charity. [Press Release]
