"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" Conquers Box Office with $63.5M in Opening Weekend

DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa easily bested all its competitors at the box office in its opening weekend of release, taking in $63.5 million to beat out most analyst expectations. In comparison, the #2 film Role Models took in $19.3 million.

In a related story, Chris Rock spoke about his role as Marty the zebra in the Madagascar movies, and his other roles in animated comedies to the Post-Crescent, commenting that the Madagascar movies are his daughters’ “favorite of the things I’ve done that they can watch” and that he is constantly being called on to say Marty’s “crack-a-lacka” catchphrase at birthday parties and play dates.
