DreamWorks Lands Rights for Live-Action 3-D "Ghost in the Shell" Movie

Variety is reporting that DreamWorks has acquired the rights to adapt Ghost in the Shell as “a 3-D live-action feature.” The original feature film by Mamoru Oshii was based on a manga series by Masamune Shirow, and launched an anime franchise that includes two more feature films, a TV series, three video games, and two more manga volumes. DreamWorks beat out Universal and Sony for the rights after Steven Spielberg took a personal interest in the project. Avi Arad, formerly of Marvel Entertainment, and Steven Paul will produce the movie, with Jamie Moss slated to write the screenplay.
