PR: MyToons Names Bumper Blastoff Winners
MyToons, the world’s premier online animation community, today announced the winners of its international Bumper Blastoff Animation Contest at the South by Southwest Music, Film and Interactive Festival in Austin. SXSW celebrates the convergence of entertainment and media outlets. The winning animations were selected from more than 200 submissions created by animation enthusiasts from around the world.
Luis Blanco and Michael Uman, founders and key creative directors of INTERspectacular, the award-winning New York-based design and concept studio, served as judges for the competition. “It was a challenge” said Luis Blanco, “to narrow down the winners to the top 20. We evaluated execution, degree of difficulty, story telling ability and overall style. “Sound was an important factor,” adds Michael Uman, “because it plays such an important part in the narrative of an animation. In the end, it takes originality to create a great piece of animation.”
Contestants were asked to create original animated bumpers lasting 30 seconds or less, for a chance to win their share of $7000 in cash prizes. Check out the winning entries at mytoons.com/blastoff.
MyToons “Super Star” winning animations are “Furnick” by Evadceivorus, “Still Life” by Grootfontein, and “Cookie Monster” by Sounas. Each animator receives a $1,000 cash prize and Evadceivorus won an additional $1,000 bonus prize for being selected as the “Supreme Super Star” Grand Prize winner for “Furnick.”
The Rising Star category in the Bumper Blastoff contest challenged students’ creativity and offered them an opportunity to shine. “FruitToons” by Assassin, “Train LaLa” by Momofummo, “Sweets” by Kiss, “Sockman Returns” by OneUp, “Firetrouble” by Kevaleb, and “Bumper Blastoff Entry” by Emmyymme are the six winning student animations, each receiving $500.
Assassin was named the “Supreme Rising Star” and will receive a professional portfolio review by INTERspectacular’s Luis Blanco and Michael Uman, Victor Newman of Freestyle Collective and Michael Waldron of Nailgun.
“We want to thank the art and animation community for contributing their time, talent and creativity to the Bumper Blastoff contest,” says Stacey Ford, chief creative officer of MyToons.com. “The response to Bumper Blastoff has been incredible, attracting entries from as far away as Hungary, France and Japan. This contest was a great way for animators to exercise their creativity and connect with the MyToons community. We are developing our next contest right now, so stay tooned!”
Winning selections will run as pre-rolls and bumpers on MyToons.com and on MyToons’ partner websites, including the MyToons YouTube channel, providing tremendous exposure in addition to the millions of visitors who come to MyToons.com. To view the winning animations, visit: MyToons.com/blastoff.
