Lebanon Reverses "Persepolis" Ban
Lebanese authorities have reversed a decision to ban the animated movie Persepolis due to a public outcry that the ban was intended to please Iranian and Shiite clerics rather than out of any sensitivity to Muslims or the Islamic faith. The movie is based on the graphic novel memoirs of Marjane Satrapi as a child growing up in Iran and Europe during the Islamic Revolution. The official statement from the general security department stated that “personal, political or confessional motivations” had nothing to do with the original decision to ban the film (see Toon Zone News’ original coverage of the ban).
