Since the 1950’s Peanuts is one of the most beloved comic strips in the world. Originally written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, the strip ran from 1950 until Schulz’s death in 2000. The comic focused on a lovable crew of characters including Charlie Brown, Lucy Van Pelt, Charlie’s pet beagle, Snoopy, and his side-kick Woodstock, as well as several other characters, which were the focus of funny, poignant stories of childhood for every season. Peanuts’ tremendous success in print led to the comic strip’s transition to its animated form, which was brought to life by producers Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez. The highly popular television specials entertained generations of children and adults alike with their funny and poignant explorations of seasonal holidays and rites of passage that continue to air on television to this day.
