NY Times on "Ratatouille" Oscar Dilemma

The New York Times covers the dilemma facing Disney/Pixar over Ratatouille over Academy Award nominations for 2007 (free registration required): whether to lobby for a Best Picture award or for the Best Animated Film award. While the Best Picture is considered a more prestigious award, the Best Animated Film award is an easier one to win, and some Oscar campaigners fear that Academy members will split the vote sufficiently that the movie won’t be nominated for either category. While movies nominated for Best Animated Film are also eligible for Oscars for Best Picture as well as those for acting, directing, and screenwriting, 1991’s Beauty and the Beast is still the only animated film to receive a nomination for Best Picture.

Disney executives did not comment for the article, but voice actress June Foray is quoted in the article, as is Disney Executive Vice President and Beauty and the Beast producer Don Hahn.
