The New York Times is reporting that several of Charles M. Schulz’s family is upset over Schulz and Peanuts, an upcoming biography by David Michaelis which often depicts the creator of the Peanuts comic strip as a depressed and cold individual constantly pursuing women (free registration required). Schulz’s son Monte and daughter Amy Schulz Johnson both cite several inaccuracies in the text, but Schulz’s second wife Jean was more charitable towards Michaelis. She noted that Schulz was “melancholy,” but stated that the book does not give a complete picture of the cartoonist.
