"Persepolis" to Close 2007 New York Film Festival in October

The 2007 New York Film Festival will close with a screening of Persepolis, the autobiographical animated movie based on the graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi and directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud. The graphic novel and movie are based on Satrapi’s experiences growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution.

The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, but also drew protests from the Iranian government, stating that the movie was inaccurate and that its selection was politically motivated. Similar protests from the Iranian government led to the movie being pulled from the Bangkok International Film Festival roster.
