NY Times on the Revival of Pokémon

The New York Times has taken a look at the revival of Pokémon after sales and interest in the brand flagged after 2003 (registration required). An executive for Pokémon USA noted that Pokémon was a victim of its own success, suffering from overexposure after its first peak in popularity, but that the brand has bounced back due to a coordinated effort to regain control over the brand, limit the rampant merchandising of the Pokémon characters, and a near-simultaneous release of a new video game, trading cards, and an animated series.
