TZ @ SDCC: ADV To Dub WHV's "Appleseed: Ex Machina" And Other News (Updated)

At ADV’s Comic Con panel, company co-founder Matt Greenfield and manga division head Chris Oarr turned out with some very interesting news in hand. For starters, Matt Greenfield announced that ADV’s production side will be handling the dub for Warner Home Video’s new anime property, Appleseed: Ex Machina. Beyond just that, Greenfield also noted that ADV’s working on a “Christmas Present” for anime fans, namely a wide release of four films including said Appleseed film, Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters Per Second plus two other as yet undetermined films. He also noted that at the moment, the date and other details of theatrical release project have yet to be finalized.

Meanwhile, Chris Oarr talked about the goals of ADV’s manga division. For starters, they are basically limiting themselves to two categories: titles that complement their existing anime licences, such as the very successful Evangelion: Angelic Days, and titles that they consider to be excellent enough to stand on their own, such as Yotsuba& and Gunslinger Girl. They intend to keep their overall output fairly manageable – namely they intend to release three to four volumes of manga a month, with specific titles releasing two to three volumes a year. Lastly, they are also looking toward means which allow them to extend the lifespan of completed manga properties, such as the upcoming over-sized Azumanga Daioh manga omnibus.

Oh, and of course they told fans to look forward to more new announcements at upcoming conventions.

Updated July 29, 2007, 12:40pm Pacific Time: ADV also announced at their panel that a redesign is in the works for ADV.com and additionally there may be an announcement coming August 15th in regards to cell phone ringtones basedon ADV series becoming available.
