Springfield, MN Drops Out of "Simpsons" Movie Promotion Contest

The town of Springfield, MN, has dropped out of a contest to select the state where The Simpsons‘ fictional town of Springfield will be set. City Manager Mac Tilberg was quoted in St. Paul’s Pioneer Press as saying, “We couldn’t find any interest in town that would spearhead the project,” and added that his town of Springfield had little in common with the animated version on The Simpsons. Tilberg added, “We wouldn’t even be promoting our community. We’d be promoting 20th Century Fox’s movie.”
