Possible "G.I. Joe" Live Action Movie

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, currently finishing work on the upcoming Transformers live action movie, has indicated that he plans to begin work on a G.I. Joe live action movie. The movie would be set before the timeline of the cartoon, depicting the rise of C.O.B.R.A.

di Bonaventura has tenatively recruited Mark Whalberg, recently nominated for an Academy Award for his role in The Departed, to star as Duke. IESB caught up with Whalberg and he had this to say, “You know what, I’ll do whatever Lorenzo wants me to do; it really depends on the script, obviously, but it’s a cool idea. He says it’s going to be kick ass, so yeah. But he’s already putting that out there, so who knows. He knows how to get me to say ‘yes.'” The actor and producer have previously worked together on Four Brothers and the soon to come Shooter.

As planed right now the film would include Destro and Stormshadow from the ranks of C.O.B.R.A. as well as Hawk and Snake Eyes from the Joe side. No filming or release dates have been announced.
