NYCC: Anime Network Continues Growth; Bringing "Oh My Goddess!" S2 and More in May
On the first day of the New York Comic Con, the Anime Network’s Stacy Dodson (Director of Operations and Programming), April N. Brem (VOD & Programming Manager) and Emily Olman (Director of Advertising) presented the state of the Anime Network. In one form or another, they said, the network is currently carried in 96% of all households that have cable TV service, and they are continuing their efforts to broaden their audience for both video-on-demand and subscription services.
They also announced three series to debut on the network in May: Oh My Goddess! Season 2, 009, and Karua Phantom Memory. They also stated that negotiations are in the works with Tokyopop, Right Stuff, and Geneon to bring their programming to the network. They also talked up their new series Nerima Daikon Brothers, noting that the March episode of DVD Dojo will contain a behind-the-scenes look at the show. They are keeping an eye on delivering High-Definition video content, saying that some of the newer content was HD-ready and that they have done some prep work to upscale their current 4×3 content into an HD-ready format, but at the moment they are looking to build up their library more before moving into the HD space.
On the mobile front, the Anime Network is now available on Sprint and negotiations with Cingular are underway.
Toon Zone News’ coverage live from the New York Comic Con will continue throughout the weekend.
