To Export Anime, Japan Needs Better Copyright Lawyers – Government Panel
In a report issued Monday local time, a Japanese government panel said the country needs better copyright lawyers to maximize exports of cultural content including animation.
The panel, part of the Intellectual Property Planning Division of the Prime Minister’s Office, said Japanese exports of TV shows, movies, games, music and anime were being hindered by a shortage of experts in international copyright law.
The report recommended Japan revise its copyright law to make it easier to broadcast Japanese video over the Internet, start exchange programs to raise local lawyers’ expertise and be more flexible when copyright issues arise.
