"Steel Jeeg" Remake Begins April 5

A sequel to the 1975 mecha anime Steel Jeeg, based on the manga co-created by king of anime kitsch Go Nagai, will start airing weekly on the premium Japanese channel WOWOW on April 5.

Animeanime notes that when the first series was released, it was famous for using “traditional Japanese motifs” and for the show’s merchandise, robot toys that combined using magnets.

The new series will be a direct continuation of the old, set 50 years later, and will be directed by Kawagoe Jun, director of Lupin III: Dead or Alive.
