Disney Channel: DISNEY CHANNEL ORDERS SECOND SEASON OF HIT MULTICULTURAL PLAYHOUSE DISNEY SERIES “HANDY MANNY”

BURBANK and PASADENA, January 10, 2007. . . Disney Channel has ordered a second season of its hit Playhouse Disney animated series “Handy Manny.” The announcement was made today at the Television Critics Association press tour by Gary Marsh, President, Entertainment, Disney Channel Worldwide. Wilmer Valderrama will return as the voice of handyman Manny Garcia, a helpful, determined young man who, with the assistance of his eclectic set of talking tools, is the town’s expert when it comes to repairing all that’s not working, even friendships among neighbors.

“‘Handy Manny’ has proven to be a tremendous success for us, in part because kids from all ethnicities and backgrounds can identify with Manny and his ‘family’ of talking tools,” said Marsh. “This new season will continue to introduce Spanish language to preschoolers with increased visual cues and tools to help them understand the meaning of the words based on context.”

In addition to imparting life lessons about working together, communication and setting goals, the new season will emphasize the series’ language curriculum, employing demonstrated techniques to help viewers comprehend and retain Spanish words and phrases. Language specialist Dr. Rose Marie Garcia Fontana has joined the series’ as a consultant. Marcela Davison Aviles continues as the series’ cultural consultant and Dr. Renee Cherow O’Leary as curriculum advisor.

The series, which launched on September 16, 2006 to Playhouse Disney’s highest premiere ratings ever, features a theme song written and performed by renowned East Los Angeles rockers Los Lobos, and a lively underscore by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer Fernando Rivas. Susan Blu is the voice director and Charles E. Bastien is the director. “Handy Manny” is a production of Nelvana Limited in association with Disney Channel.

“Handy Manny” airs weekdays at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT and weekends at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT during Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney programming block for preschoolers.
