Nickelodeon: "Animation Really Is the Heart and Soul of Our Business"

The New York Times examines the continuing success of Nickelodeon (registration required), and makes note of the networks’ continued and unflagging committment to new and on-going animated programming, with Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami stating that “Animation really is the heart and soul of our business.”

The article looks at the success of old favorites like SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, and also at upcoming shows in development like El Tigre (about a young 13-year old Latino boy torn between his father’s legacy as a superhero and his grandfather’s legacy as a super-villain) and Ni Hao, Kai-lan (a series for pre-schoolers that revolves around Chinese culture and will attempt to teach some basic Mandarin Chinese to its audience).
