Marvel Announces 3Q Financial Results

Marvel Entertainment reported a $23.4 million profit on overall revenue of $81.4 million for the third quarter of 2005. The numbers represent a 29% drop in profits from the same period a year ago, partially due to the positive impact Spider-Man 2 licensing had in 2004. Future projections for 2006 promise even bleaker financial results, with Marvel Chairman Morton Handel stating that 2006 will be “a difficult year for both toys and licensing.” The only division to report an increase in revenue was the publishing division, which provided approximately 30% of the total revenue for the quarter.
