TZ at SakuraCon: Gunslinger Girls from FUNimation
The entire FUNimation representative crew turned out in cosplay to screen the first three episodes of Gunslinger Girl at SakuraCon last week, with the brand manager dressing as Henrietta, complete with violin case. The dub of that series, by the way, is outstanding–nay, breathtaking.
A limited Gunslinger Girl starter set will include a 24″ x 36″ cloth poster, printed with a dye sublimination process for maximum image quality, was announced. The set will come in a sturdy box, and representatives stressed that availability will be limited, so they encouraged fans wanting the set to preorder it.
The Gunslinger Girl DVD will be released on May 17. Other releases announced at the FUNimation presentations include Kodocha (June 28), Tenchi OVA 3 (July 5), Galaxy Railways (July 19) and Samurai 7 (an unannounced August date).
Kodocha‘s cast will include Laura Bailey (Sana), Jerry Jewell (Akito), John Burgmeier (Rei), Monica Rial (Aya), Chris Casson (Babbit) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (Mama).
Representatives said that FUNimation is pushing for a second season of Fruits Basket and hopes to tap into fan support by getting conventioneers to make paper cranes which Funimation will send to Japan as a form of petition. The company is continuing to push Fruits Basket merchandise in the meantime. There will be a second series of Fruits Basket hats (including a Shigure hat, a Momiji hat with floppy ears, and a reversible Haru hat) and shirts will be available at Hot Topic.
The company is also launching a new street team, called Funi Girls, that will be linked to a website and forum with information on how girls can get into the marketing and promotion side of the industry.
