Ottawa Festival Announces Preliminary Features
The Ottawa International Animation Festival has added a Children’s Films competition in which entries will be judged by a jury of local children, festival organizers said today.
“Every year there is controversy over the choices for Films and TV shows for Children,” says artistic director Chris Robinson. “After the Festival a posse of kids approached the OIAF organizers to complain about the ‘utter incompetence’ of the jury decisions. So this year, instead of just giving them a free t-shirt and sending them on their way, we decided to give the kids an opportunity to put their words into action.”
The 2005 Ottawa festival will also incorporate categories from its now-defunct Student Animation Festival into the competition.
Among its non-competitive screenings, the festival will pay tribute to The Pink Panther, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, Slovak animation and the work of Italian animator Guianluigi Toccafondo.
In addition, the Second Annual Television Animation Conference will be held at the Chateau Laurier Hotel on September 21 and 22.
