Miyazaki & Company Set to Purchase Studio Ghibli
As was previously reported by Toon Zone , Studio Ghibli is separating from its parent company. Variety now reports that Spirited Away director Hayao Miyazaki and a group of investors are set to buy Studio Ghibli from Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., according to AWN. Top Ghibli employers are seeking between $96 million and $144 million to buy out the rights to all past Ghibli productions.
In 1985, Studio Ghibli was established as a subsidiary of Tokuma, but due to financial problems at Tokuma, the studio became a division of the bigger firm in 1997.
