Short Notices: "Sabrina," "Clifford" Hit DVD with Winning Stories

Sabrina The Animated Series: Witch in Training
Sabrina is a cute little animated series based on the primetime Sabrina the Teenage Witch show, which in turn was based on the Archie comic book of the same name. In this version, we warp back to when Sabrina was merely a preteen and she and her friends were having lots of great middle school adventures.

The show is cute. I was never much for the Sabrina live action show, but the animated series is somewhat charming. It features Melissa Joan Hart (star of the live-action show), whose previous claim to fame was Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains it All. Overall it’s a nice show.

The DVD itself isn’t that bad either, containing four episodes. The transfer is good—often with animation you can really see the compression, but you can’t here. It could have included more bonus features (the fourth episode is supposedly the big “bonus”), but overall it’s a good release and I’d recommend it to any fan of Melissa Joan Hart or of the show in general.

Clifford’s Really Big Movie
In Clifford’s Really Big Movie, now out on DVD, the late John Ritter is joined by Cree Summer, Wayne Brady and Judge Reinhold in a story about the big red dog leaving home to join a live animal show. The story is pitched at preteens, but it is quite charming and adults will also get a nice feeling out of this movie.

The DVD itself can be played in either full screen or wide screen presentation. Special features include a behind the scenes featurette, a craft-making feature, a music video , and a theatrical trailer. The menu screen is easy to navigate for children with Clifford and friends in the background with music playing.
